Two friends. Forty-eight hours. One mission. Alright, maybe that's a tad dramatic, but you get the gist... As a fellow Sydneysider, I've always scoffed at the thought of driving to the Snowys for a weekend - 12 hours return in the car you say?! Not to worry, after a couple trips to Melbourne, and a jaunt up the coast to Noosa, 6 hours was a piece of cake.
Presented with the freedom of the extra long weekend (gotta love Easter), we chucked our gear in the car and hit the open road on Thursday afternoon. We set up camp at Island Bend (highly recommend - there's plenty of sweet spots by the river) and tried to catch some sleep before the big day on Friday.
We set off from Charlotte Pass at 8:30 in the morning (a bit later that we'd hoped), but we still finished with plenty of time to spare before sundown. All up the walk took us 8 hours, including a side trip to Blue Lake, multiple rest breaks and a decent lunch stop. In other words, I think it's definitely doable for anyone with a decent level of fitness.
Plenty of fantastic views to go around!
